Meteora monasteries - hanging from the clouds
One of the longer journeys from Corfu, yet richly rewarding. Majestic caves lie below, while time-worn monastery buildings cling to dramatic sandstone cliffs above. The setting feels almost celestial.
The history of its creation and construction is extraordinary. Even if you plan to visit on your own, it would be useful to have the help of a guide who knows the history of ancient relics very well.
Meteora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting millions of pilgrims from all over the world. There are currently 6 monasteries operating.
